As discussed in the last blog, bio pollutants are found in almost every home and can greatly affect the quality of the air you breathe indoors. We also highlighted how these pollutants can cause some health problems. But, because the symptoms associated with bio pollutants are very similar to those of many other types of ailments, how can you be sure that they are the cause of your health problems? Well, although you will need to see your health care provider for an accurate diagnosis, here are some indications that biological pollutants may be the reason:

If you are experiencing frequent headaches, fevers, tiredness, stuffy nose, dry throat, and difficulty breathing, etc. have you noticed that these symptoms tend to disappear when you spend time out of doors?

Have you been cleaning out any air conditioning units or humidifiers recently, or has it been a long time since this was done?

Have you moved house and, if so, did your health problems start after you moved? The same question should be asked if you have had any work done to the home like insulating, weatherstripping, installation of storm windows, or any other type of energy conservation that has been done lately. Did your problems start either during or after the work was completed?

Are humidity levels high in your home? Have you observed any water accumulating on hard surfaces such as windows, or even walls and ceilings? Are you smelling musty or moldy odors that would indicate you have moisture intrusion somewhere?

Do you have any pest issues like rodents, insects, or cockroaches, etc.?

After considering these questions, how many of them can you answer yes to? If you can answer yes to some of them or all of them, then bio pollutants may be affecting your health.
