Materials used for home construction are always changing with the continuous advancement of technology. Manufacturing companies also try to look for ways of improving on their product. What about drywall manufacturers? Well, let’s take a look at one alternative option, that of paperless drywall.
While a traditional type of drywall uses a gypsum core surrounded by very thick paper in its construction, paperless drywall uses fiberglass instead of paper to cover the gypsum. The reason for this difference is that traditional drywall with its paper covering is prone to water damage and mold, which we know to be serious issues. Paperless drywall is designed to greatly reduce this problem by using a more water-resistant gypsum and fiberglass covering which is much less prone to water damage. Does that mean it’s the better option then?
It can be a great option for rooms that see a lot of moisture such as bathrooms and basements etc. however, there are a few reasons why you might decide not to use it throughout the home. For example, although its fiberglass covering makes it a lot stronger, it also makes it harder to install and the fiberglass could cause some skin irritation. Using paperless drywall can be more difficult than traditional drywall when it comes to achieving a smooth finish. Another issue may also be that paperless drywall is not as easily available than traditional drywall.
If you are remodeling or constructing a home, take some time to research the different building materials available to you. In this way, you will have the home you want and one that will last.
