While there are many types of siding to select from these days, wooden siding is still a very popular cladding type and is found on many homes throughout the United States.  It’s a good idea, then, especially if you are thinking about wood siding for your new home, to know a bit more about some of the more common types of wooden siding you might find.  Here are just a few of them:

A very common type of wood siding is lumber or solid wood which can be arranged in various combinations such as diagonally, horizontally, or vertically.  This is a great choice for wooden siding because it looks attractive and if maintained well is very durable.

Another cheaper option is hardboard.  This is typically a compressed wood fiberboard made with synthetic adhesive that is normally treated with EPA approved preservative which aids in the prevention of decay and damage from insects.

Clapboard also known as weatherboard is usually installed with long overlapping boards placed horizontally.  The wood used for this is typically cedar or redwood because it is very strong and not as prone to decay.

Plywood is another choice.  Woods used with this kind of wooden siding are Douglas fir, western red cedar and yellow pine.  Whether they are fitted in a horizontal or vertical position, they can add to the home’s structural strength.

As we can see, this has only been a few of the many different choices of wood siding.  So, if you are in the process of designing or building a home and are considering using wooden siding, it’s good to take some time to look at all the possibilities.
