With the abundance of options, we have these days when it comes to home finishes, we can feel very spoiled for choice.  Take flooring for example, there are so many possibilities available that it’s easy to find something that will fit all styles and budgets.  Let’s take a moment to consider just one of those possibilities, laminate flooring.  Is it a good option for you?

There are numerous reasons why laminate flooring might be a good choice.  For those homeowners who are on more of a fixed budget, laminate flooring can transform a room for a very reasonable price.  Its also relatively easy to install.  So, with a wide range of effects and colors, you might decide it is for you.  Laminate flooring generally has a hardwood look but there are even marble, or granite effect finishes available.

What is laminate flooring made of? It is usually made up of fiberboard which has a melamine resin.  It comes in panels or pieces which, much like hardwood flooring, fit together to form the whole floor.  Are there any disadvantages to laminate flooring? While there are alternative options available, laminate flooring often contains the chemical formaldehyde, which is used in the melamine resin.  Some people may not want this chemical in their homes.  Laminate flooring can also shift and move.  It can also be prone to warping or buckling if the sub-floor underneath it is wet or damp.  After briefly considering the pros and cons of laminate flooring, we hope you will be better able to decide whether laminate flooring is right for you.
