On our thorough home inspections nothing goes unnoticed, however, that doesn’t always mean you need a professional to tell you whether some part of your home isn’t working the way it should, there are some things you can do yourself.  Take the toilet for example.  Its one of those areas of the home that we don’t often give a second thought to, but think about what would happen if it broke, the whole house would be in chaos.  What are some simple ways to check that the toilet is working correctly?

One way to start is by checking the toilet bowl itself.  Did you know that if a toilet bowl has chips or cracks in the porcelain, it will be noted down as faulty?  These are easy things to check for.

Another test you can perform is to flush the toilet and observe how long it takes for the tank to fill back up again.  If it is taking more time than usual, you may have a problem that needs fixing.  This is also the case if the toilet is taking too much time to flush.

Does your toilet continuously run?  It’s easy to get used to a problem like this but it shouldn’t be ignored because it is wasting a lot of water which will also mean you’re wasting money.  If you have a private well for your water, this could be damaging the pump.

The average person will flush the toilet about 2500 times a year.  That’s a lot of flushes in a larger household.  With that in mind, then, its clear to see the need for regular toilet maintenance.
