It is unbearable when your home is hot and your air conditioner doesn’t seem to be doing enough. Of course, one thing you could try is opening a few windows, but only if you are willing to open your house to bugs! And depending on the conditions, opening your windows could cause all the hot air to enter your house instead of getting rid of it.

Some safer tips are to try closing the blinds or curtains in your house during the day to deflect the sunlight and block the heat from getting in. Another lesser-known suggestion is to switch off or unplug some devices, like appliances and chargers. You’d be surprised by how much heat they generate inside your home. Cooking can also be a big contribution to the heat created in your home, so try not to let too much heat out of the oven door, and use an extractor fan above your stovetop if available.
