Whether it’s by natural means or human induced, sinkholes are becoming more and more common these days.  Not only do they cause major damage to buildings and roads, they can also seriously injure or kill people.  So, what are some ways of detecting the warning signs that a sinkhole could be around your property?  Let’s look at a few, and although it’s true that some of these warning signs could also be caused by other issues, it’s good to consider first if you live in a sinkhole prone area.
On and around your property look out for changes like water accumulating in areas that previously did not have this issue.  Are trees and fence posts starting to fall or lean over?  You might notice things like foundations, trees and posts or anything that is typically underground starting to become exposed, this is another sinkhole warning sign.  You could also find that plants and shrubs etc. are starting to die off in some areas, this may perhaps be due to a sinkhole drawing away water.  Other major warning signs are cracks that start to form in the ground in a circular pattern, sudden openings in the ground and rapid ground subsidence.
Some warning signs could show up in the home also.  If you start to observe that doors and windows are not closing properly anymore, this could be a possible warning sign that there is a sinkhole.  Look for cracks in the floors and walls of the home.  If your home uses well water, is it muddy or cloudy looking?  Like we mentioned earlier, if your home is located in an area that could be prone to sinkholes, these are some of the warning signs to watch out for.  It’s always good to be conscious of what to look out for when it comes to sinkholes because, even though they are not too common, they are extremely dangerous.
